Say, I have 2000 nodes all with disparate hostnames and other parameters, and I'd like to set up an advanced alert "email me if a node goes down" that tracks all these nodes.
What is the best way to do it?
My initial thought was to group them, i.e. create a group called, say, "HP Encoders", and then set up one of the trigger conditions, "group name equal to HP Encoders".
Doesn't seem to work:

If I switch "type of property to monitor" from "group" to something else, it'll allow me to save the alert w/o further error messages or warnings, yet when I come back to look at it, here is what it shows:

I.e. something completely unintended, and kinda dangerous: I never made that choice. I hope Solarwinds doesn't consider this the intended behavior either?
What am I doing wrong and how do I do it right?
Listing all 2000 nodes by adding their names directly to the trigger is not something I want to do:

Thanks for any ideas.
