I have the following products installed across a Main Engine, an Additional Poller and an Additional Web Server:
NPM, SAM, NTA, NCM, IPAM, VNQM
When I had just the main Engine upgrades/updates were not so bad, but now that I have 3 servers to update and the process is very painful:
- install product on main engine (20 minutes with the config wizard)
- Install on additional Poller (10 minutes)
- Install on Additional Web Server (10 minutes)
- Repeat Steps 1-3 for every product I need to update if I'm upgrading/updating more than one product at a time.
It takes a long time to do this in a serial fashion for all the Products I'm updating. It would be nice to have a more automated process to push the updates to the poller and web servers or at least have the ability to install on the main engine first and then install on the poller and the web server at the same time. I have talked to support and posted the following thread, but at the moment the answer seems to be the steps I outlined above: Process for Updating/Upgrading Orion Products with Additional Poller and Web. As I noted in my post, it took me 2 hours to run minor updates for NPM, SAM and NCM across my Main, Poller and Web servers the last time I did an update.
Hotfixes
For hotfixes it would be nice if I didn't have to manually create a backup file of the file(s) that is/are being replaced and just run an executable that does those steps for me.
