SCHEDULE REBOOT

I would like to see a feature added that would allow us to schedule a reboot at a future date/time, similar to being able to schedule an unmanage of a node at a future date/time.

Also, I would like to see the unmanage tied into the reboot.   So when I reboot a server or schedule a reboot of a server (if the function becomes available) that the node would be automatically unmanaged or prompted to be unmanaged for a set time.

p. s. This idea was originally posted in SAM by broeben as http://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/3057, but I feel it may be more appropriate on this page since it's about rebooting nodes.  At the time of posting, it already had 16 votes.

We need to reboot our servers on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, etc) to make sure all the security patches have been applied, so we're in the midst of writing our own scripts to support this.  (I'll gather more requirements for the scheduling needs.)

I'd like to see a reboot on schedule flag (yes/no), reboot frequency, day of week, etc. added to the fields in NPM to accomplish this.  Perhaps also a flag signifying whether or not to also unmanage the node (although I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to) and for how long ("x" minutes).  This would allow other groups that support the applications to tweak the reboot schedule as needed.  Thus, may eliminating the need for the server admins to be involved.

Also, if the server is already unmanaged for a longer period of time (we unmanage some sql server applications at night during maintenance windows), to skip the unmanage step and just reboot.

Considerations are also needed if the server is down & was unmanaged (to keep historical data), so it doesn't  try to reboot & re-managed the server by this process.
