We currently utilise the IF-MIB:linkUp trap type to immediately transition an interface status in NPM to UP rather than waiting for the next scheduled poll. This is done via the trap viewer and Alert Actions tab. On top of this our current rediscovery interval for every interface in NPM is set to 1440 minutes to reduce server load and unnecessary repeat rediscovery of all interfaces.
This combination can sometimes result on Orion having incorrect information stored about the configure speed of an interface and therefore NPM calculates interface utilisation as being above 100% forcing us to manually tell Orion to rediscover an interface.
I propose that an additional Alert Action be added to also allow the trap to trigger Orion to rediscovery interfaces on a trap by trap basis therefore ensuring more up to date data and preventing erroneous data being presented to our NOC team(s).
